Podcast: The Conundrum of the Sight & Sound Poll 2022

Live from the Locarno Film Festival: Four critics discuss their process of choosing the Top Ten Greatest Films of All Time: A conversation about letting go, criticism as activism, subjectivity and the lure of universalism [in English].

Every ten years the British film magazine Sight & Sound invites critics, scholars, curators and filmmakers to vote for their personal top ten films. Whether to participate at all and how to decide on a way to tackle this impossible and absurd task of reducing the experience of 125 years of cinema to just ten titles are some of the questions that come up just days before the deadline of voting. Behind these pragmatic questions looms one of the big debates of cinephilia of our time: Are there universal criteria for ranking films or is it all a mere matter of perspectives and social positions?

Together with critics Dana Linssen from the Netherlands and Müge Turan from Turkey, Rüdiger Suchsland (Artechock) and Frédéric Jaeger (critic.de) engage in a discussion about issues many people in film are facing right now. A podcast in collaboration with Artechock.

Just a heads-up: The new episode somehow doesn't appear in my podcatcher (Castro). Clicking the iTunes link doesn't also do the trick.
